to cal fire and we get called in when they are basically out of assets. we are working for cal fire, they are the incident commanders, we follow their coordination, typically we're the last ones in and the first ones out. we do have an on-going relationship with cal fire, i'm in contact with cal fire all the time. we have good situational awareness what's going on in the state of california. they normally put us in an alert stat us so we're prepared to respond in an attack mode. i don't often work with chief chaney in southern california, about a month ago we had 9 aircraft at our peak working fires throughout northern california if that answers your question. >> any other responses? >> i wanted to touch -- can you hear me now? i wanted to touch on that last topic as far as the command control because what we have here in the marine corps is similar to the navy. we have the installation, the regional installation command and also partners with the operational foresite. we allow the operational foresight, we maintain those but then we coordinate, cooperate, with the operational

with cal fresh, it has one a 1 million dollars usd access and participation grant to establish a call center, build an online application portal and establish a network of community based organizations to help improve access to cal fresh. during the five years since the recession started, the cal fresh caseload in san francisco has grown by 86% from just under 15 thousand cases to 29 thousand cases representing over 40 thousand san francisco residents served by this program. upwards of 7 million dollars in cal fresh benefits are issued each month in san francisco, mostly trance -- transacted by large retailers, now a third of our monthly applications come in online, during my tenure with cal fresh, we established a restaurant meal program where low-income, homeless or disabled individuals can eat hot meals, now 7 other california counties operate such a program. yet there's still significant work to do with cal fresh, notably the horizontal integration with medical for the affordable care act implementation allowing one application for both programs, and further expansion of the prog

on. to what extent in cal fire and all your other things do you encourage people to do things in their forest when you don't have a fire that make it easier and more effective in fighting the fire? >> it's an excellent question, sir. we spend a large time in cal fire on public education and prevention and also with respect to you were talking about fuel, the fuels program, or vegetation management program in cal fire, we have a robust program throughout the state where we are conducting burning operations and vegetation management with prieflt ranch owners and private land owners as well as on state and cooperating with our federal agencies with the u.s. forest service. so two-fold program, vegetation management, we aggressively pursue that, but also from a public education stand point. what we find in these large scale incidents, the public is going to have to be self-sustaining and self-supporting. they need to be prepared. we try to educate them in respect that we say we'll provide the offense, you provide the defense. we talk to them about hardening their structures

between now and 2040, percent growth. cal train is expected to grow significantly because we have committed to cal train electrification and the extension of cal train and you see this large expected percent increase in rider ship. in absolute terms it's about 13,000 new riders which is represented by the percentage. the growth on bart and that is about 50,000 new bart riders so it's a smaller percentage but many more riders. this map shows growth in auto trip making just within san francisco, so these are trips that both start and end in san francisco, and they're driving trips and we see significant driving in the southeast part of the city and the eastern part of the city where so much growth is expected. travel to and from sonoma, mission bay, to and from the polls, southeast quadrant of the city. >> wow. >> and this is showing similar information at auto trip growth, but where one trip is outside of san francisco, so they're regional trips. one end is in san francisco and one end is outside the city and a lot of growth and trip making between san francisco and the south

quarter due to the deferring site conditions at cal var as, we are now forecasting the overall cost of the program to be slightly over the approved budget of $4.6 billion. specifically, our forecast is now $17.6 million above the currently approved budget. and the projects that have the largest forecasted cost increases of course include the calaveras project, they also include the peninsula pipeline seismic upgrade, the bioregional habitat restoration as well as the sunol valley water treatment plant. and in a recent presentation i talked to you about potential areas of savings in the program and we're definitely looking at that. and we want to move all these savings to the program management reserve in an effort to try to compensate for these forecasted increases. and talking about the program management reserve, as of the end of the reporting quarter, the end of 2012, we had a balance of 117 million. at our last meeting you approved the transfer of that balance to the calaveras dam project so that leaves us with a zero balance. this is why it is so important for us to identify th
